Movies
There are four different kinds of trying in movies. The worst being the “phone-in”, when you can see the actor, director or editor really not care, giving a zero-filled performance and might as well not have shown up, and just called in his work. There’s the “on par”, where it feels like they are present and ready to do this, but not all the incentive and perks in the world could motivate the person to put in that extra percent. There’s the “performance” where they give the right amount to give a performance that is believable and thought-driven, and powerful. This is the level you want actors to be in, because then you know that they are giving it all.
When it comes to Denzel Washington, ever since he won his second Acadamy award for acting for the 2001 movie Training Day, he’s been playing a similar way, which is when he eats up the screen and overshadows everybody he is working with. It’s slowing becoming the Denzel movie starring Denzel and a bunch of other people.
Tis the season to be jolly. Fa la la la la, et cetera. Christmas shopping is coming to an end, and what better way to celebrate increasing the amount of debt on your credit card than to head to the theatre and watch some movies. But instead of heartfelt, romantic comedies, and Oscar contenders, and all that, we’re watching a couple of action-packed films that will wake the audience. So, let’s head in and see a double header.
When it comes down to the facts, 300 was a visually great movie, based on a visually great graphic novel. That being said, it’s also one of the cheesiest dialogues in recent years. It’s not like you are looking for Oscar-caliber story or anything like that. It’s mindless entertainment. But it’s a fun movie. It’s a movie you can put in at any time when you want an easy movie to watch, and be entertained.
I heard about this movie a lot when it came out in 2008. It was one of those weird movies that I might like. It’s a post apocalyptic cyberpunk, which I am a huge fan of. But it’s apparently a musical, which I try to avoid. But it’s rock music that’s in the format of an opera, which shouldn’t be bad. So, I’m already torn going into it, so I try to have an open mind.
